Forces kill 14 Taliban in South Waziristan, Dir

* Troops arrest 16 Taliban in Swat, five in Bajaur Agency
* Two soldiers killed in Dera Ismail Khan blast

PESHAWAR/RAWALPINDI/ KHAR: Three Pakistan soldiers and 14 Taliban were killed on Sunday as Islamabad pushed its massive assault against the group in FATA, said officials.

Eight Taliban were killed when fighter jets pounded hideouts in South Waziristan, said two security officials.

The destroyed hideouts belonged to members of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), said the officials.

Separately Pakistani artillery pounded two Taliban hideouts in Lower Dir district’s Kashmore village, killing five Taliban and injuring five others, District Coordination Officer Ghulam Mohammad told AFP. The two hideouts were targeted and destroyed on intelligence received by the troops, said the official.

The ISPR said a Taliban was killed and another arrested during a search operation in Swat.

At least 15 other Taliban were arrested in various parts of Swat, it said, adding that one soldier died in an exchange of fire with Taliban in South Waziristan, while two others were killed in a bomb blast at a mosque in Dera Ismail Khan.

Also, security forces and political authorities of Bajaur Agency arrested five Taliban and destroyed three houses.

Separately, a jirga of important personalities of Lal Qilla tehsil in Dir met security officials to discuss matters related to security and administration. afp/staff report
